Colorado Tour In Russian or English languages: Crane Festival.
Every March for thousands of years roughly 20,000 Greater Sandhill Cranes make a rest and refueling stop in the lowlands around Monte Vista, Colorado, and, while not for that long, but for quite a while now we have been taking groups to see them. The cranes are large attractive birds, about 4' high with 6' wingspans, and it is fascinating to observe them in their leaping and bowing courtship dances and thrilling to watch hundreds or thousands suddenly take off all at once.
As part of this trip we usually stop at Colorado Gators where, completely unexpectedly, you can see several hundred alligators along with many other types of reptiles. The gators live on tilapia which are also raised on site. The secret to alligators thriving in the middle of Colorado winters is the hot springs underlying this most unusual attraction.
We also go to San Luis, the oldest town in Colorado, shop at the oldest grocery store, and walk the beautiful Stations of the Cross trail up to a quaint adobe-style chapel. All of the life-sized sculptures along the trail were made by a local very talented artist, Huberto Maestas.
Time permitting, we stop at Ft. Garland, an early West army station once commanded by the legendary
Kit Carson.
If you want to have a great trip in Colorado in Russian or English language, this trip is for you!
